Summer DIY: Bright & Bold Bobby Pins

For anyone that's a fan of their bobby pins (though I could never seem to use them properly), here's a DIY tutorial to glam them up from their boring state!

Level: Easy | Medium | Hard

Kit List:

  • Nail polish - Grab all your colours, neons, darks, pastels, glitter...
  • Bobby Pins - These can be your old used ones, or brand new! It doesn't really matter what colour, but if you can find some already brightly coloured, those are great as you won't need to paint those stripes. White ones are also ideal as if you happen to have very think nail polish, the colour will show up better. You can use any type, however the ones with ridges will require you to be more careful.
  • Masking tape
  • Scissors
  • Old cardboard - Or a surface that you don't need as you'll be painting on this!

Step-by-step method:
  1. Place your bobby pins on your surface, spread them out.
  2. Using your tape, tape off some patterns. There isn't a particular rule for this, you can experiment to see what looks best! Be sure to press down firmly on the tape (especially on those ridged bobby pins) so no excess nail polish drips under when you paint.
  3. Grab your nail polish and paint the sections. It's best to paint and wait for them to dry so theres no wastage/leakage.
  4. Wait for the nail polish to dry (20 minutes is around sufficient, depending on what type of nail polish) and then peel off the tape.

I love how these look so pretty and colourful, yet they're so simple and quick to make! Pair these with a vibrant outfit and you're good to go.

Summer DIY: Beaded Flipflops

Summer's here- and here to stay for the next couple of weeks, so to accessorize a pair of your much-needed flipflops, check out this DIY tutorial to make Beaded Flipflops :)

Level: Easy | Medium | Hard

Kit list:

  • A pair of flipflops - preferably a plain, solid block coloured pair, however anything works! You can use a brand new pair (they're super cheap) or vamp up a pair of your own :)
  • A spool of ribbon - try to get a colour that matches/compliments your pair of flipflops, roughly 1-2 inches width wise
  • Beads! You can opt for the fancy pearly types, or colourful ones, try to get a variety of sizes
  • Extra bits and bobs - e.g mini seashells
  • Glue gun (heated up, and ready to use)
  • Needle and thread (Try to get a pale colour, like white so it isn't too visible) Optional.

Step-by-step method:
  1. Add a drop of hot glue at the base of the strap, and stick the end of your ribbon there.
  2. Then continue wrapping your ribbon until the strap is covered. Don't forget to add extra drops of glue in 1-2cm intervals to keep the ribbon secure.
  3. Once you're done, snip off the ends and secure with glue.
  4. Take a new piece of ribbon and wind it to fill in the 'V' shape. 5-7 lines of ribbon across is enough, don't fill it all the way up or your foot won't fit!
  5. Start gluing your beads on! If you have the types with a hole in between, you can also sew it on for extra security.

And that's it! I think these flipflops are perfect for an exotic holiday by the beach, or for just chilling.
