Summer DIY: Beaded Flipflops

Summer's here- and here to stay for the next couple of weeks, so to accessorize a pair of your much-needed flipflops, check out this DIY tutorial to make Beaded Flipflops :)

Level: Easy | Medium | Hard

Kit list:

  • A pair of flipflops - preferably a plain, solid block coloured pair, however anything works! You can use a brand new pair (they're super cheap) or vamp up a pair of your own :)
  • A spool of ribbon - try to get a colour that matches/compliments your pair of flipflops, roughly 1-2 inches width wise
  • Beads! You can opt for the fancy pearly types, or colourful ones, try to get a variety of sizes
  • Extra bits and bobs - e.g mini seashells
  • Glue gun (heated up, and ready to use)
  • Needle and thread (Try to get a pale colour, like white so it isn't too visible) Optional.

Step-by-step method:
  1. Add a drop of hot glue at the base of the strap, and stick the end of your ribbon there.
  2. Then continue wrapping your ribbon until the strap is covered. Don't forget to add extra drops of glue in 1-2cm intervals to keep the ribbon secure.
  3. Once you're done, snip off the ends and secure with glue.
  4. Take a new piece of ribbon and wind it to fill in the 'V' shape. 5-7 lines of ribbon across is enough, don't fill it all the way up or your foot won't fit!
  5. Start gluing your beads on! If you have the types with a hole in between, you can also sew it on for extra security.

And that's it! I think these flipflops are perfect for an exotic holiday by the beach, or for just chilling.
